🇦🇺 Why Australia?

High Earning Potential

Doctors in Australia consistently rank among the highest paid professionals. General practitioners earn an average of AUD $120,000–$150,000 annually, while specialists and consultants can exceed AUD $200,000+. With ongoing demand in both urban and rural areas, doctors have strong income security and flexibility to choose preferred practice locations.

World-Class Healthcare System

Australia’s healthcare system is globally recognized for quality, patient outcomes, and technology adoption. International doctors get access to structured training, modern facilities, and continuous professional development. This ensures a smooth transition into clinical practice while building a long-term career in a supportive environment.

Pathway to PR & Citizenship

Medical professionals are on Australia’s priority migration list. Completing AMC pathways and securing registration gives doctors a direct edge in obtaining permanent residency (PR). Over 85% of international medical graduates settle permanently, benefiting from one of the most stable and rewarding immigration systems globally.

Career Growth & Specialization

With clear postgraduate training programs, research opportunities, and specialty colleges, Australia enables international doctors to progress from MBBS graduates to consultants, professors, and even medical entrepreneurs. Strong academic links and government support ensure a future-proof career path.

🤔 AMC Pathways Explained

Eligibility & English Proficiency

Confirm your medical school is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools and AMC accredited list. Complete English language requirements via IELTS (7.0 each band) or OET (B grade).

IELTS/OET Fee (indicative): ~AUD 580 (₹32,000) • Mandatory before AHPRA registration

Financial Planning

The AMC journey is costly and requires upfront planning. Expect at least AUD 10,000 (~₹5.5 lakhs) for initial steps. Aspirants should have a clear funding strategy (loans, savings, family support) to ensure the process is seamless.

Major Costs (indicative): • EPIC: AUD 300 (~₹16,500) • AMC Part 1: AUD 2,920 (~₹1.6 lakh) • AMC Part 2: AUD 4,130 (~₹2.27 lakh) • AHPRA: AUD 1,855 (~₹1.02 lakh)

EPIC Verification (ECFMG)

Create an EPIC account at ECFMG EPIC and upload your MBBS degree, transcripts, and internship certificate. AMC will not process your application until EPIC verification is complete.

Fee (indicative): USD $200 (~AUD 300 / ₹16,500) per credential • Timeline: 4–6 weeks

AMC Part 1 (MCQ Exam)

Computer-delivered exam with 150 multiple-choice questions via Pearson VUE. This is the gateway exam to clinical practice in Australia.

Fee (indicative): AUD 2,920 (₹1.6 lakh) • Prep Time: 4–6 months • Attempts: Unlimited

Internship / Resident Medical Officer (RMO)

If you’ve completed internship abroad → Apply directly for RMO roles in Australian hospitals. If not → Secure a 12-month internship via State Health Departments. Paid positions ensure hands-on clinical experience.

Salary (indicative): AUD 70,000–110,000 (₹38–60 lakhs) annually • Job cycle: May–Aug ads → Jan start

AMC Part 2 (Clinical OSCE) or WBA

After passing Part 1, attempt either: • AMC Part 2 OSCE (16 stations, Melbourne only) • Workplace-Based Assessment (WBA) if placed in a recognized hospital. Passing this step grants AMC Certificate eligibility.

AMC Part 2 Fee (indicative): AUD 4,130 (₹2.27 lakh) • WBA Fee: ~AUD 1,000 • Wait: 3–6 months

AHPRA Registration

Apply to the AHPRA Portal for general medical registration. This allows independent practice and eligibility for specialty training.

Fee (indicative): AUD 1,855 (₹1.02 lakh) • Processing: 4–6 weeks • Requires AMC Certificate + English proof

Specialist Training (Residency)

With AHPRA registration + PR/eligible visa, apply to specialty colleges such as the RACP, RACS, or RACGP. Training takes 3–7 years depending on specialty.

College Membership (indicative): AUD ~1,000/year • Visa Options: 189/190/491 or 482 sponsorship
This is the Standard Pathway you have other pathway options which can be explored, like, if you have completed MBBS or equivalent from USA, UK, Canada etc., or have cleared USMLE, PLAB etc.,or, if you've completed you specialist training (generlly PG residency or equivalent) from any country other than Australia, there are different pathway options available for you. All in all, you could've complete your MBBS or equivalent or PG Residency or equivalent, THERE MOST LIKELY IS A PATHWAY FOR YOU AS WELL.

🤑 Return on Investment

The AMC pathway requires planning — but once you secure your first Australian role, the financial returns quickly eclipse your upfront investment in exams, documentation, relocation, and expert guidance.

AUD70,000+
≈ ₹38–40 lakhs per year (typical RMO/intern packages)

Entry hospital roles (Resident Medical Officer) with roster penalties and overtime often push totals higher, depending on state and hospital enterprise agreements.

AUD120,000–150,000
≈ ₹65–85 lakhs per year (GP or hospital registrar)

Most IMGs reach this band within 1–3 years, subject to location (metro vs rural), hours, and billings/allowances.

AUD200,000+
≈ ₹1.1–1.2 crore+ per year (specialists/consultants)

Specialist incomes vary widely by college, setting (public/private), and on-call/after-hours load — many exceed published base figures with billings and incentives.

Bottom line: even your first Australian salary can outweigh the entire cost of exams, documentation, relocation, and professional guidance. Compared to the multi-year earning potential, your one-time consulting investment is effectively peanuts in the overall ROI picture.

⚖️ Compare Your Options

Not all “help” is created equal. See how our AI-powered AMC advisory stacks up against generic coaching and the Indian exam routes.

Our Advisory (AI-powered AMC Consulting)

Support from IATC certified consultant(s), not past students or tenderfoot consultants. End-to-end navigation: portfolio, EPIC, exams, AHPRA, job strategy, PR planning. Study support via our trained AI.

  • Time to earnings: Fastest — start earning as RMO/GP soon after AMC Part 1 + placement.
  • Outcome: AHPRA registration + paid medical roles + PR pathway.
  • Guidance: Compliance checklists, CV/interview prep, 24/7 AI study assistant.
  • ROI: First-year AUD salary outweighs entire journey cost.
  • Transparency: Clear steps, official portals, timelines.
  • Cost reality: One-time consulting fee — peanuts compared to ROI.
  • Access dynamics: Equal access — merit-based process, no quotas.

Consulting investment is a one-time enabler — peanuts compared to the ROI.

Generic “AMC Coaching” Classes

Lecture-heavy prep; often run by past students, not certified consultants. Limited help with EPIC/AHPRA, jobs, PR.

  • Time to earnings: Slower — mistakes delay AHPRA & jobs.
  • Outcome: Exam tutoring only; compliance and registration gaps remain.
  • Guidance: Minimal support — CVs, interviews, job targeting left to you.
  • ROI: Appears cheap, but delays erode returns.
  • Transparency: Unclear process; students confused post-exam.
  • Cost reality: Upfront looks lower, hidden costs from delays.
  • Access dynamics: Dependent on self-navigation, no certified oversight.

Cost looks lower upfront but hidden delays raise total spend and stress.

NEET PG (India)

Residency pathway in India. Competitive ranks, seat quality & specialty allocation uncertain.

  • Time to earnings: 1–3 years typical before stable income.
  • Outcome: Indian PG seat; builds Indian career (not Australian registration).
  • Guidance: Coaching support for exam only.
  • ROI: Strong if securing desired specialty/college; weaker otherwise.
  • Transparency: Seat allocation depends on rank/category; uncertain.
  • Cost reality: Coaching ₹1–2.5L/yr; donations/NRI seats inflate costs.
  • Access dynamics: Fair seat probability limited; alternative routes common.

A respected pathway within India. But for those eligible, motivated, and financially prepared (including via education loans, or other legal means), the AMC pathway offers faster earnings, global recognition, and significantly higher career upside.

FMGE / NMC Screening (India)

Licensure exam for foreign medical graduates in India. Historically low pass rates.

  • Time to earnings: Often delayed; multiple attempts common.
  • Outcome: Indian license only; does not lead to AHPRA.
  • Guidance: Coaching exists, but limited beyond exam prep.
  • ROI: Weak — pass rate is low; many invest without returns.
  • Transparency: Uncertainty around attempts, recognition, practice needs.
  • Cost reality: Multiple attempts + gap years inflate costs.
  • Access dynamics: Without 2–3 yrs of recent practice, opportunities limited.

Necessary for Indian practice, but with historically low pass rates and limited long-term scope. For eligible graduates able to invest or finance their journey, the AMC route provides far stronger prospects of success and stability.

Bottom line: if your goal is to build a medical career in Australia, our advisory is the direct route to AHPRA registration, paid work, and PR. Any upfront consulting cost is tiny compared to the earnings and stability you gain.

🔁⁉️ Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need EPIC verification before starting the AMC process?

No — you can begin your AMC portfolio first. EPIC (via ECFMG) is required once you submit documents for primary source verification. We guide you step-by-step so nothing gets delayed.

What are the current AMC exam fees?

As of 2025, AMC CAT MCQ costs AUD 2,920 and AMC Clinical exam costs AUD 3,720. Fees are payable directly via AMC Online Portal.

What English tests does AHPRA accept?

AHPRA accepts IELTS (7.0 each band), OET (B grade each component), PTE Academic (65+ each band), and TOEFL iBT (94+ overall with sub-scores). We’ll advise on the fastest, safest option for you.

How long does the AMC pathway take?

Most IMGs progress from AMC Part 1 → AMC Clinical → RMO/GP role within 18–30 months, depending on preparation time, exam scheduling, and job targeting strategy.

What kind of salary can I expect after passing?

Entry RMO roles start around AUD 70k+ (~₹38–40 lakhs/yr). GP registrars often earn AUD 120k–150k within 1–3 years. Specialists exceed AUD 200k+. See our ROI section for full details.

Can this pathway lead to PR and long-term residency?

Yes — Australia’s demand for doctors makes healthcare a priority occupation. Once employed, most IMGs secure Permanent Residency via Skilled Migration (189/190) or employer sponsorship.
